An authentic Tonkinese countryside 05 hours (8am-13pm)
05 hours (8am-13pm)
We leave the bustling center of Hanoi and drive to a calm and peaceful rural area of the city. Upon arrival, we are welcome by the local host who is accompanying us for a walk in the village. The small pathway takes us to the ancient temple located under the umbrage of a big old banyan tree. Then we visit the most famous market of the region dated since the XVII century. Under the canopy of perennial trees, people are selling cattle, poultry, house ware, clothes, etc. It’s also an opportunity for locals to greet each other. The market seems getting hotter with the flaming fire in the brazier of the blacksmiths who are doing the best to finish their work while, in a little bit far away, in a teahouse, an old country woman is chewing betel and sipping green tea.
We continue on the country path through the farms to the vegetable fields to watch people growing cauliflower, cabbage, tomato, etc and visit the orchards where we can recognize the diversity of tropical fruits: orange, pomelo, papaya, guava, banana, jujube and so on. We meet farmer, listen to them talking about their daily life and depending on the season, we may have chance to experience local farm or garden activities: sowing, watering or cropping in a very rudimentary way.
The morning will be ended with a cooking demonstration of traditional dishes following by a delicious lunch prepared with fresh ingredients of the village. Green tea and local wine are offered. After lunch we will be transferred back to the center of Hanoi.
