Full day reserved to a discovery of Hanoi. The morning visit starts from Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum square, the former residence of Ho Chi Minh, continues to the One Pillar Pagoda, the Temple of Literature, Tran Quoc pagoda, and ends with a lunch at the typical restaurant. In the afternoon we discover the museum of ethnography, Ngoc Son Temple located on an island and surrounded by the Sword Lake and enjoy a trishaw ride in the old quarters then assist to the Water Puppet show, a very amazing traditional and cultural performance of Vietnamese folk tales and historical anecdotes. Free time till transfer to Hanoi Railways Station for a night train to Lao Cai. Overnight on board (Air conditioned 04 berth cabin share).
We arrive in Lao Cai in the early morning and have breakfast at local restaurant before transfer to Bac Ha the weekly largest ethnic fair of the North West highlands where different ethnic minorities from remote villages come every Sunday to exchange their homemade products, meet each other, enjoy life after hard working days. It’s a chance to explore the real life of major ethnics of the country, recognize their identity by their specific colorful traditional dresses and customs. In the afternoon, we take a drive downhill then a short walk to Trung Do village inhabited by Tay people. We meet the villagers and listen to them talking about their daily life. A Tay family welcomes us to its traditional house for a cup of tea. Drive to Sa Pa. Overnight at 3* hotel.
After breakfast we walk to Lao Chai, a village of Black Hmong then to Ta Van village of the Zay – a minor ethnic who is living mainly in the mountainous areas. Back to Sapa for lunch then we drive to Ta Phin. The area is extremely spectacular not only with the mighty landscape but also the unmixed culture of the two largest ethnic groups, Black Hmong and Red Dao, living together. We walk around to meet the villagers, visit their typical house and explore their daily activities. Transfer to Lao Cai for night train back to Hanoi. We arrive in Hanoi in the early morning, have breakfast then take a road to Ha Long bay. The name of Ha Long comes from the legend of the dragon going down to the sea. We board the lovely typical junk for an extraordinary cruise through thousand of islands, islets and rocks. Enjoy buffet lunch while sailing on the bay. In the afternoon, we experience a local rowing boat to visit Luon cave. The rest of the day is for swimming, relaxing on the beach or climbing up to the top of Rock Mountain for a spectacular panorama view. Enjoy sunset on the bay from the deck while cruising to overnight anchorage. Sumptuous dinner is served on board following by a full relax in the peaceful and quiet night in the bay. Start off with Tai Chi class in the morning. Next, we will be sipping coffee, tea and relishing bakeries as we are cruising to the Surprise grotto for a visit. Brunch is followed afterwards on board. Capital of the last Vietnamese dynasty since 1801, Hue is preserving not only the royal life style but also a poetic charm of a city. We drive along the river to visit Minh Mang – the most majestic imperial tomb and Thien Mu pagoda. A romantic boat ride on Perfume River takes us to Thuy Bieu, an untouched garden village of Hue. We cycle around the village under the shade of the fruit trees, visit the orchards and talk with the local. An exciting cooking class will be done at a local garden house followed by delicious lunch of Hue specialties. Full relax with a foot bath in medicinal herb water and traditional foot massage. In the afternoon, we continue the visit by car to the Great citadel built in 1805. The complex, a World Cultural Heritage site, includes the Noon Gate, the Supreme Harmony Palace, the Forbidden City, the Royal theatre, The Great Urns, etc. A discovery of Dong Ba market with countless stalls selling specialties of Hue ends the excursion of the day. Back to hotel and overnight in 3* hotel.
After breakfast, we drive along the coast, cross the Cloudy Pass and arrive in Da Nang. Known as Tourane under the French rule, Da Nang is the largest city in the center of Vietnam and one of the major port cities of the country. We visit the Cham Museum where the largest of Cham sculpture and artwork in the world is displayed. We continues driving southwards to Hoi An (ex Faifo) – a well preserved example of the South East Asian trading port of the 15th to the 18th century. After check-in the hotel, we tour the old town: the Japanese covered bridge, the noble ancient house, the Cantonese Assembly Hall, the handicraft workshop and Hoi An market. Then, we get relaxed on the boat cruising along Thu Bon River to enjoy the sunset and watch the daily life of the local people. Free to explore Hoi An night market. Overnight in 4* hotel.
In the morning we cycle the narrow paths and enjoy the peaceful countryside before getting Tra Que herb garden veggie village. We visit the local farmers and listen to them talking about their “Organic farm” and how the products are consumed in Hoi An and its surroundings. Experience the farming activities with the local to know how to grow the vegetables. We keep biking throughout the rice paddy fields, the shrimp farms, and the picturesque landscape to Cam Thanh Ecological village then arrive at a local house. It’s time to share the daily life of a farmer and get familiarized with its work. Lunch will be served at the family following by a rest in a pure countryside atmosphere and a therapist foot massage. In the afternoon, we experience the basket sampan for a traditional fishing then visit the water coconut palm plantation and have fun to catch crab. We return to the boat, continue riding on the quiet river and enjoy the sunset with Vietnamese traditional snacks and cold drinks while the fishing boats are leaving the village for offshore. We come back to the hotel by road. Overnight in 4* hotel.
Morning flight to Ho Chi Minh City. Formerly known as Saigon, Ho Chi Minh City is one of the largest cities of Vietnam, with a population of about 8 million. The very dynamic city constantly appears in activity. Wherever we go, everyone always seems busy of buying, selling, studying, working or just enjoying life. Despite the skyscrapers that recently blocked the view of the sky, there are still many architectural vestiges of the French colonial era. After lunch at the typical restaurant we discover the city with a visit to Chinatown, Binh Tay market, Thien Hau pagoda, the Museum of War Remnants, Notre Dame Cathedral, and the Central Post Office. Overnight in 3* hotel.
After breakfast, transfer by road to Ben Tre. W e t ake a boat trip on the Mekong and visit to the handicraft brick kiln then go into the small canal bordered by longan trees, papaya trees, and water coconut trees. We leave the boat to watch how local people make candies with coconut and taste the fresh seasonal fruits. A motor-cart takes us on the country path to a beautiful typical house for lunch. After a short break, a rowing sampan rides us along the water palms to a boat back to the pier. Transfer to Vinh Long. In the afternoon, we cycle around the village to contact local people and visit a Theravada pagoda. Dinner and overnight at local house.
In early morning, we board a local boat to visit Cai Rang market, the largest floating market in the Mekong delta. Hundred cargos from remote areas come to the market to exchange agricultural products. Our boat moves into the crowd and we will get a unique experience of buying and tasting fresh tropical fruit on board. Then we disembark and drive to Binh Thuy temple –the oldest temple of the watery region. Walk through a local market to a well preserved noble old house of the province to witness a collection of antique ritual objects then we continue by road to Chau Doc. In the afternoon, we visit the Cham village and its mosque and Tra Su Cajuput reserve. Overnight in 3* hotel.
We have breakfast at the hotel then leave Chau Doc back to Ho Chi Minh City. Lunch en route. Afternoon free at leisure or shopping. Overnight in 3* hotel.
